Hello readers, Hope all of are doing well,

Here is a bed sheet which is made by me and Amma six years back. This project is based on Rajasthani art.  The Bedsheet is done mainly using herringbone stitch and chain stitch for lines. These two are very basic stitches. The dark shades of cotton threads are used on deep red background, which gives an ethnic Indian look to the Bed sheet.

 This design is best suited for Diwan set; isn’t it?

I know images are not so clear and I am sorry for that. I hope you like this bed sheet pattern.

Patch Work - Dancing Lady

Dear readers on this blog you have observed many patterns of patchwork portraits done by my mom. Inspired by her beautiful work I have also thought of trying patchwork. I know that I can't match with her neatness in hand embroidery but still attempted one of dancing lady pose of patchwork and posting the same here. 

As always background is done with cotton fabric. I used very simple stitches like filling buttonhole, herringbone, feather stitch, satin stitch, chain stitch and couched trellis stitch. Her saree is filled with random cross stitch. Hairs are done with stem stitch filling. Let me know your opinion on my first attempt of patchwork.
 In my upcoming posts surely you will get tutorials of all above-mentioned stitches.

Running Stitch Tutorial and its varieties

Dear readers, 

This time I am posting on the blog after a long gap, first of all sorry for that.

 Here is a tutorial for the simplest and primary stitch i.e. Running Stitch, and some of its varieties.

As shown in the picture Running stitch is just passing the needle in and out of the fabric; creating a line of stitches of equivalent length and equal space in between.

Varieties of Running Stitch.

1) Whipped Running Stitch

Here are the steps for whipped running stitch. Two-colour threads are used for this stitch.

1^st step: Make running stitch foundation on the fabric.

2^nd step: Pass or weave another color thread through each running stitch from the same side. This weaving should also be done on the top of the fabric, needle should not be pierced. Use a contrast thread which gives a beautiful twisted look.

 

2)  Laced Running Stitch  

For laced running stitch also foundation will be running stitch.

Later on, pass contrast color thread through running stitch. As pictures shown below once pass through the right side of the stitch next time pass through the left of the stitch and so on.

 Similar to whipped running stitch needle should not pierce into the fabric.

 

Table Cloth - Chain Stitch

Hello readers, hope you are all doing well. 

In this post, I am presenting a beautiful table cloth. This hand-embroidered table cloth pattern done with only chain stitch. You can observe there are two lines of chain stitch is used, to make the outline thicker of this free-hand design.

To make the work simple I have done only outline instead of filling. In all the colours (i.e. blue, green and orange) two shades of threads are used. The outer one is with a dark shade and inner is the lighter one. Silk thread is used on cotton cloth.

 You may try this pattern, a very easy project and doesn’t take much time to finish. If you try this let me know your experience. 

  

Patch Work – Shakunthala

How are you all ?

Before this also you have seen some patch work patterns with hand embroidery on this blog. I have mentioned that I will post few more patchwork designs. Here is the one, portrait of Shakuntala. Patchwork is one of the favourite types of embroidery of my Amma. She always enjoys doing these patterns. She used various shades of silk threads in this project, which enhanced the beauty of this art piece. Patchwork is done on cotton cloth as always.

The important stitches used are

• stem stitch filling for hairs,
• long and shirt for flowers,
• Satin for dots white dots on the deer
• Round buttonhole, herringbone, Long and short, stem and satin stitches are used on here attire.

Peacock Pattern With Long and Short Stitch

Hope you are all well.

This a beautiful peacock pattern of hand embroidery. The major part of this peacock pattern is done with long and short stitch. This stitch can be beautifully used in filling especially for blending of two or more colours.

In one of my earlier posts also you have observed peacock design. In both patterns, similar stitches and colour combinations are used. But the present one is a smaller design. So it has not taken much time to finish. This pattern can be used for wall hangings or table cloths.

The stitches used are long and short stitch for feathers with multi colour thread, stem stitch for other fillings, chain and satin stitch in between.
