Door Hanging or Toran
Dear
friends, I wish that Diwali fill your home with happiness, prosperity and good
health.
Diwali, being the biggest
festival in our country we all decorate our homes as beautiful as possible. You
will put your creative efforts on Rangoli, Diya, lighting and so on. In the
market also a variety of ethnic and artistic home décor items are available.
One such item is a door
hanging or Toran. I saw it in the market and I felt very attractive. So we
have tried to make one with hand embroidery. But we didn’t have any such design
with us. With some auspicious motifs like kalash, I draw this design. We
choose a yellow colour, which looks auspicious for Torans. The fabric used is
of cotton. The main stitch used is Herringbone stitch. Outline stitch or stem
stitch used in between. Mirrors are fixed with readymade rings and you can
observe small bells were stitched below to enhance the look.
Feeling happy for
decorating the door with homemade Toran.
Wish you again “Shubh
Deepawali”

Hand Embroidered Saree
This blue georgette
saree on which double shaded silk thread. In my last post, I posted saree with matching embroidery.
This time the work on saree is done with contrast colours. We tried many clour
combinations as always J. Finally, we got this double shaded thread i.e.
yellow and orange.
You can see the whole
pallu is embroidered and decorated with kundans.
Now let us see the stitches, in this embroidery pattern the main stitches used
are herringbone stitch and chain stitch.
Herringbone is one
of my favourite stitches. because it is not only used beautifully to fill
petals leaves but also very simple stitch. Whenever you want to finish your embroidery
filling, use herringbone stitch. This stitch is also known as Russian cross
stitch. I am planning to post tutorial kind of articles about some of hand
embroidery stitches. Let us see how it works.

Lazy Daisy Work On Saree
You
may see on pink Georgette saree, darker shade of pink silk thread is used. In
the beginning, we decided to go for a contrast colour combination, so tried
blue and cream colour. But it didn’t go well with the pink background. After
trial and error, a darker shade of pink is selected, and Kundans are used to
enhance its beauty. The above image is of the border and below you can see
Pallu.

Beautiful Peacock Design Embroidery
Hi all
How are you doing? In my last post, I have presented a large patchwork. This time also I am presenting a large hand embroidery project. This
is purely hand embroidery , no patch work. Even though simple and easy stitches are used, this peacock design demands lot of patience.
But after completing the work will be just “wow” !!
This is an old piece of art bu my all-time favourite. The
whole project is done by Amma only. Pure cotton cloth and silk thread are used.
Details of the work are:
- Herringbone stitch is used for lotus. Stem stitch for the outline.
- The stitches are chain stitch, round buttonhole, Chain stitch.
- Long and short and for all the feathers.
- All other fillings are done with stem stitch
- You may observe Panchrangi or multicolored thread in feathers. This thread you get easily at the market
You may try your own version or colour combination.
On completion, it will look marvelous!!
